Because I have oily skin I love a good exfoliation.
I found a two in one combined product on a trip to the brick and mortar skincare boutique, Little Barn Apothecary in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this week. I’ve seen this brand in an indie boutique in San Diego, specifically, I think it was Pigment. Since I am all about clean beauty and really digging into what brands offer when I read an article on Goop.com about things to do in ATL and saw that this store was located there, I knew I had to check it out and grab at least one item while in town, and one item I did! I can go a little overboard but I managed to leave with just one that I loved and actually needed to add to my skincare regimen.
It’s Rosewater + AHA Texture Tonic, a combo of toner and exfoliant in one. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are great for chemically exfoliating. As the name shows, a main ingredient is Rosewater, which is hydrating and soothing. Add to that a mixture of willow bark (an organic form of salicylic acid which is a beta hydroxy acid, BHA), with the AHAs glycolic and lactic acids as well as lemon or citrus ingredients which are astringents and/or brightening and tightening. A combination of active exfoliation applied in a soothing solution. In addition to sloughing off dead skin, glycolic is made from sugar and lactic is derived from milk so both are moisturizing. AHAs will cause skin sensitivity to the sun so I put this on at night and let it do its thing. I’ll do a light cleanse of my face in the morning before heading out for the day. Do add SPF, which is a must, yes even on skin of color, we burn too. My face appeared to be brighter and smoother the very next day so I’ll keep it up.
