Guess what?! I had an inspiring week of fashion in of all places, my hometown of sunny San Diego!
I kicked off the weekend with Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla where the fashion show began with a showcase for hair and makeup looks and the artists behind them. If you are not familiar with FWSD, please take a look at the website. They have events throughout the year introducing up and coming to San Diego fashion designers with a finale show during the first week in October. I assisted mainly with the setup and breakdown of wardrobe, etc. and dressing of the models in the designer collections backstage. It was hard work, long hours but good times! I can see myself in fashion event planning…very satisfying, if my back can take it! : ) Take a looksy at the festivities via my personal pics below…
The coincidental thing is while I was working FWSD, I stumbled upon a flyer for another fashion event at Warwick’s bookstore while taking a break and strolling the streets of La Jolla! This was a book signing with Sophia Amoruso, founder and owner of Nasty Gal as well as author of the book #Girlboss.
So of course I went to the book signing which started with a brief question and answer session with Sophia and a reporter (sorry I did not pay attention to who he was) as well as taking questions from the audience. I jotted down a few lines from the girlboss herself on her personal thoughts or advice on being a boss and entrepreneur. So I wanted to share.
Those being:
- It does not get easier but you get smarter.
- I’ve always landed on my feet.
- Surround yourself with people that support you.
Simple huh but we all need those simple reminders time and again.
Below are my personal pictures of the moment…
Here’s to an inspiring week of fashion, style, building relationships, the entrepreneurial spirit and good old fashioned hard work!
Live life in style! XO, Lysandra
